The synopsis of the 2008 – 2012
Ambunti- Drekirkier District Five Year Development Plan briefly gives
the highlights of what will come in the plan. The main sections in this
Chapter are as namely; Introduction, Background Information and Methodology. |

Introduction |

The 2008 -2012 Ambunti – Drekirkier
District Five Year Development Plan is not intended to be a textbook
or a scholastic work. It is instead the undisputed intention of
the principle contributors that this plan is utilized as a working
plan or document by Managers, Administrators, Politicians, NGOs,
Government and other International Donors.
This document exposes the real
issues encountered by the people of Ambunti – Drekirkier
District and at the same time it provides strategies to enable
the Political Leaders, Public Servants, NGOs, the Government of Papua
New Guinea, East Sepik Provincial Government and Ambunti, Drekirkier,
Tunap- Hunstein and Gawanga Local Level Governments to address the concerns
in strenuous efforts as documented. |

The district
plan intends to increase access to social services, produce markets,
employment opportunities, basic infrastructure such as waterways, roads,
bridges, airstrips, communication, housing, electricity, and health and
education facilities could be the first step towards achieving the purpose
of this plan.
This could be followed by the provision of goods as well
as trained public service machinery to the district that could ensure
efficient implementation and management of long term programs and projects.
Projects and Programs developed for the District would have a high level
of local participation in its planning, management and implementation.
The
Ambunti – Drekirkier District Five Year Development Plan is
for the years between 2008-2012. The plan would be successful with full
participation and commitment of the people of Ambunti – Drekirkier
District.

The past and current development taking place in Ambunti – Drekirkier
District is the result of collaborative effort put in planning. The district
has track records of Five Year Plans being documented since 2002 to guide
developments in the district
It is also another opportunity for the people of Ambunti – Drekirkier
District to have a working Plan in place. Nonetheless, the document provides
the basis on which funding and budgetary support could be sought from
National and Provincial Governments and other donor agencies.
It is Ambunti
- Drekirkier District’s utmost intention and desires
that project goals and objectives are achieved in the years to come and
the future generation will enjoy the benefits of the work.
Despite this,
whatever resources that the District has are hoped to be utilized, exploited
and developed at the sustainable level. |

Methodology

The
plan is developed from the updated data collected from the senior
officers of Ambunti – Drekirkier
District and as well as putting together data from previous 2003-2007
Five Year Plan. . Whatever that was planned and not achieved due to financial
limitations and time frame is carried forth to 2008 – 2012 Ambunti – Drekirkier
Five Year Plan. Some information, especially photographs come from site
visitations made by Honorable Member for Ambunti – Drekirkier
District, Mr. Tony Aimo and the district officers
The process used is consistent with the Provincial and the District
planning Guidelines. The document focuses on the perceived community
needs and concerns which are reflected as the District Development Objective.
The
main process for information gathering was through open group discussions
and the use of existing data. Most of the data is verified using the
Rapid Rural Appraisal. |

Above
is the picture of Ambunti Station where the proposed new
treasury office, police station, rural lock up in
2003- 2007 five year plan has been built. What has
been planned for as been achieved. Ambunti – Drekirkier
District is developing. Development is seen to be visible
at this state as all the District Stakeholders working
together to achieve positive outcome through joint
bottom up development planning. |

Site
visitation is a complicated task for District officers
to carry
out. It involves a lot of time, money and resources. However,
Ambunti – Drekirkier District staffs are very committed
and spend their own time to visit the site and really see
and feel the complications faced by the people. The limited resources
have been used wisely. From primary evidences they have,
they are now planning & allocating resources to solve peoples’ problems.
